Free Companion App
The companion app runs on your Mac or Windows PC. It receives Bluetooth commands from your iPhone and translates them into arrow keystrokes — so your slides advance.
Available for macOS 13+ Windows 10+
Both versions are free. No account, no installer wizards. Download, open, done.
Double-click the downloaded eClickerCompanion-1.0.dmg file. Drag the app to the Applications folder shortcut.
Open eClicker Companion from Applications. Since it's downloaded outside the Mac App Store, macOS may ask you to confirm. Right-click the app and choose Open, then click Open again in the dialog.
The app appears as a small icon in your menu bar — there's no Dock icon and no window. Look for the status icon in the top-right of your screen.
On first launch, macOS will prompt you to grant Accessibility access. This is required so the app can inject arrow keystrokes into your presentation software.
Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and toggle on eClicker Companion. You only need to do this once.
Double-click eClickerCompanion-1.0.exe. There's no installer — the app runs directly. You can move it anywhere you like (Desktop, Program Files, etc.).
Windows will show a SmartScreen warning because the app is not signed with a Microsoft certificate. Click "More info" then "Run anyway". This is normal for apps distributed outside the Microsoft Store.
The app runs in your system tray (bottom-right, near the clock). You'll see a status icon showing the connection state. Click it to see details or quit.
The companion app remembers which iPhone it belongs to, so it won't accidentally connect to someone else's phone in a shared room.
The first time you open eClicker on your iPhone near the companion app, they connect automatically. No PIN, no manual pairing step. The companion remembers your iPhone from that point on.
On every subsequent launch, the companion only reconnects to your iPhone. Even in a room full of people all running eClicker, each computer responds exclusively to its paired phone.
Got a new iPhone, or want to pair with a different device? Use Forget Device to clear the pairing. The companion will connect to the next eClicker phone it finds.
eClicker on your iPhone acts as a Bluetooth peripheral. Each tap writes a 2-byte command to a BLE characteristic — one byte for the direction, one for a sequence number.
The companion app acts as a BLE central. It subscribes to notifications on the characteristic and receives each command instantly — typically under 20ms latency.
The companion translates the command into a native keystroke: left arrow or right arrow. Your presentation app receives it exactly as if you pressed the key on your keyboard.
Make sure eClicker is open and in the foreground on your iPhone. The app only advertises via Bluetooth when it's on screen. Also check that Bluetooth is enabled on both devices.
Mac: Check that Accessibility permission is granted in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. Windows: Make sure the presentation app is in focus (click on it).
Right-click the app and choose Open instead of double-clicking. In the dialog that appears, click Open. This is macOS Gatekeeper protecting against unsigned apps — you only need to do this once.
Click "More info" on the SmartScreen dialog, then "Run anyway." The app is not signed with a Microsoft certificate, which triggers this warning. It's safe to proceed.
After the first connection, each companion app only reconnects to its paired iPhone — so two presenters can use eClicker simultaneously without interference. If a computer is connecting to the wrong phone, use Forget Device from the menu bar (Mac) or system tray (Windows), then open eClicker on the correct iPhone to re-pair.
Stay within Bluetooth range (10-15 meters / 30-50 feet). The companion app reconnects automatically when the connection drops — no action needed on your part.
eClicker only sends BLE commands while in the foreground. If you switch to another app or lock your phone, Bluetooth advertising pauses. Keep eClicker on screen during your presentation.
